Should I put my pronouns on my email signature?
Many people are sharing their pronouns on their email signatures and in groups. Why do they do that and should you do it as well?
By sharing your pronouns, you remove the pressure or uncertainty about how to address you. It allows for smoother communication and shows that you and your organisation are being inclusive.
Sharing your pronoun removes the stigma or pressure that others may feel when wanting to share pronouns. We are making lives easier to declare pronouns without risk or judgement or need for repetition. If we all share our pronouns, then it ceases to become noticeable and becomes everyday.
However, it is important to remember that not everyone is comfortable sharing their pronouns, or may not want to disclose them for personal reasons and this should also be respected.
